Smart bike accessories for wet days: NG Sports Smartphone Mount Waterproof

April 7, 2024 by Michael Wahl

NG Sports Smartphone Mount Waterproof in the test: NG Sports from Fürth offer smart parts for everything to do with bicycles. In addition to the simple silicone holder, which we also tested, they also offer a holder with a waterproof case.

Products from NG Sports come with minimalist and sustainable packaging. There is also no instruction manual for this holder. But you don't need it, because the holder is installed quickly and without tools. All you have to do is loosen the screw connection on the plastic clamp and attach it to the desired location on the handlebar. If the handlebar diameter is too thin, 2 rubber inserts are included in the scope of delivery. Basically, the clamp is designed for handlebar diameters from 19.2 to 35mm. For the finished assembly, the case only needs to be pushed onto the hot shoe-like connection.

Fiddy affair

As simple and straightforward as installing the holder is, inserting the smartphone into the case is a little more complicated. First, the smartphone must be placed on an insert plate and embedded with 2 foam pads on the top and bottom. The ensemble is then inserted into the waterproof cover. Unfortunately, this step is a bit fiddly because you have to make sure that everything stays in place. We were able to insert our test device and its protective cover. Finally, the case, which is designed for smartphones up to 6,1 inches in size, is closed with a Velcro fastener.

Side buttons are not easy to use

The well-made cover cuts a fine figure on our nice weather test drive. The holder withstood any shock and held the device securely in the case. However, when it comes to handling, compromises have to be accepted. On the one hand, the buttons on the side of the smartphone are difficult to use, and on the other hand, putting the device in and out of the case is time-consuming. However, aligning the bracket, which can be rotated by 90° by loosening the clamp screw, works well. The touchscreen is also easy to use in the case and responds as usual. The waterproof cover also withstood our watering can test; no moisture penetrated the inside of the cover.
