Giro d'Italia: Wout van Aert won't be taking part in the Tour of Italy

11 April 2024 by Michael Behringer

Van Aert Giro d'Italia

Cycling: Wout van Aert will not take part in the Giro d'Italia after all. The Belgian unfortunately has to cancel his start in the Tour of Italy due to his injuries.

Van Aert misses the Giro d'Italia

His fall at Dwars door Vlaanderen further disrupts the season planning. After wout van aert (Visma - Lease a Bike) has already missed the Ronde van Vlaanderen and Paris - Roubaix monuments, he will not be able to tackle the Giro d'Italia either. The Belgian broke his collarbone, sternum and several ribs in his fall and, according to his own statements, is currently unable to train.

Wout van Aert:
“My ribs are still a limiting factor. I can't train at all at the moment. I'm trying to do my first pedal strokes on the racing bike again, but it's not enough to train properly yet. This is a pity. I'm very disappointed that I'm also missing my second big goal of the season. But right now my health has to come first. I have to give my body time to recover.”
