Zefal Universal Phone Holder: The French bicycle accessories manufacturer Zefal presents its Z Bike Mount System, a simple and flexible way to attach your smartphone to your bike.
The Universal Phone Holder, produced in France, is part of the patented Z Bike Mount system series. In addition to two different universal solutions, there are also tailor-made solutions for Apple iPhone and Samsung Galaxy users. In our test we looked at the universal holder.
Fast Z mount using O-ring
The shell of the universal holder is suitable for any phone with a width of 65 to 100 mm and a height of 125 to 165 mm. The shell includes two side clips and two silicone holders. According to Zefal, these should be durable, offer additional support and excellent shock absorption.
At first glance, the Z Bike Mount looks like a small ice hockey puck with four feet. Using these feet it can be mounted at any point on the bike with two O-rings. The scope of delivery includes two sets of O-rings (Ø2 x 33mm and Ø2 x 36mm), both of which are more suitable for handlebars or narrow stems. If you want to attach the system to wider stems or the top tube, you can use larger O-rings.
The combination of mounting position and O-ring must fit
For our test ride we decided to mount it on the handlebars. The Z mount is firmly attached, although tensioning the O-rings requires a little force so that the Z mount is firmly in place. But be careful, the O-rings can tear quickly. The diameter of the selected mounting position must also match the O-rings. The smartphone is initially easy to insert into the shell; the two additional silicone tabs can also only be pulled on with effort, at least with our test device. Unfortunately, these tabs also cover the display corners. This means, for example, that the battery charge level can no longer be read.
Data Zefal Universal Phone Holder
Connecting the holder and puck is relatively uncomplicated and quick. The device can be mounted in portrait or landscape format. To do this, place the holder on the mount, press the locking buttons and rotate the holder by 90° until it clicks into place.
We absolutely loved the Universal Phone Holder on our test drive over roads, gravel paths and forest paths. The device sat firmly and securely in the holder at all times. It withstood shocks well.
