Topeak Omni Ridecase DX in the test: Topeak are known for high-quality and innovative bike tools and accessories. With their ride case concept, they only offer cases suitable for iPhones. For everyone else, there are universal solutions. We have tested the Omni Ridecase DX variant for you.
In addition to their ride case covers, the Taiwanese also offer different mounting options. The standard mount already offers several options for attaching the smartphone to the bike. The most interesting thing is the attachment to the ahead cap. But first things first.
The ahead cap is replaced by the bracket
In addition to the Topeak Omni Ridecase DX and the holder, the scope of delivery includes a clamp with an adapter and a small operating manual. The instructions are a bit confusing, in principle they only serve to illustrate what mounting options are available. The rest is self-explanatory. Depending on the bike, you can choose between mounting it on the handlebars, stem or on the ahead cap.
All three options require a hex key for assembly. But this is quick and easy. The clamp is screwed onto the handlebars and the bracket is screwed onto the adapter. If you choose the ahead cap solution, you should clarify in advance whether you have a 1/4 or 1/8 inch cap. There are different versions of the holder for this. For assembly, the bike's original ahead cap and screw are removed and the bracket is screwed in.
The Topeak Omni Ridecase DX is designed for smartphones with a display size of 4,5 to 6,5 inches. The use of materials made of fiber composite and silicone appears well thought out and of high quality. In our test we were able to use a Samsung Galaxy S20 with a protective case without any problems. Unfortunately, the Omni Ridecase covers the top and bottom areas of the smartphone display. In our case, the lower controls could no longer be used.

Did it click?
At the beginning of our test drive we almost had a mishap. When connecting the mount to the Topeak Omni Ridecase, we didn't pay attention to how the ridecase clicks into place. We only noticed this when changing the holder position. As a result, the smartphone could slowly have said goodbye to the holder during a longer journey. Basically, the connection mechanism is good, but requires a little effort to lock into place and is a bit fiddly with the release button when dismantling. We really liked the adjustment options for the tilt angle and screen orientation. The Omni Ridecase DX is also impressive in terms of stability, whether on the road or trail: the smartphone sits firmly in the ridecase and does not wobble.
