The Italian won the mass sprint on the fourth stage after 207 kilometers from Arrone to Giulianova ahead of the Belgian Jasper Phillipsen (Alpecin – Deceuninck). In doing so, he ensures the first Italian day victory at this year's Tirreno – Adriatico event. Third place today goes to the New Zealander Corbin Strong (Israel – Premier Tech). Germany Marius Mayrhofer (Tudor) sprinted to sixth place.
Abrahamsen fights until the last meter
Originally six breakaways made the day's escape, of which three remained by the stage finale. The trio around the Norwegian Jonas Abrahamsen (Uno-X Mobility), the Danes Alexander Kamp (Tudor) and the Italian Mirco Maestri (Polti – Kometa) was only caught in the last kilometer, with Abrahamsen almost crossing the finish line ahead of the sprinters chasing after them. The two top sprinters were able to fight for the day's victory Tim Merlier (Soudal – Quick-Step) from Belgium and Mark Cavendish (Astana) from Great Britain no longer intervene after they had already fallen back from the peloton. Thymen Arensmann (Ineos Grenadiers) had to contend with a stressful finale after suffering a breakdown just before the finish and struggling to get back on track.

Tellement cruel for Jonas Abrahamsen (UXM), repris tout proche de la ligne. Sprint dominated by Jonathan Milan (LTK), leader of the class by points. pic.twitter.com/2DEg99FEld— Renaud Breban (@RenaudB31) March 7, 2024
