Skjelmose sprints to his first win of the season
On the sixth stage from Paris to Nice, the overall ranking was once again shaken up. Today's top three are now also in a good position in the GC. The sprint was decided uphill Mattias Skjelmose (Lidl – Trek). Brandon McNulty (UAE) and Matteo Jorgenson (Visma – Lease a Bike) for yourself. However, the runner-up on the day can console himself with the fact that he has taken over the yellow jersey again. Together, the two Americans and the Danish champion were able to break away from the favorite group about 25 kilometers from the finish. There the competition mainly left Remco Evenepoel (Soudal – Quick-Step) the responsibility to keep the distance within limits. Although his companions also took the lead from time to time, the gap to the leading trio continued to increase. Tomorrow we can expect the top favorites to fight back on the shortened stage.
Roglic launched the first attack
Contrary to what many might have expected before the start, the sixth stage from Paris – Nice was a real affair. The Ineos Grenadiers and UAE teams in particular kept the pace extremely high, so that the outliers had no chance today and some good classification riders got into problems. The Côte de la Colle-sur-Loup opened up just 30 kilometers from the finish Primois Roglic (Bora – hansgrohe) the finale. However, the Slovenian was unable to break away from his biggest rivals. Then tried it Matteo Jorgenson (Visma – Lease a Bike). The American opened up a gap, but was soon joined by his compatriot Brandon McNulty (UAE) and the Danish champions Mattias Skjelmose (Lidl-Trek). The trio could no longer be caught. Meanwhile, he was unlucky Santiago Buitrago (Bahrain – Victorious). The Colombian fell and had to change his racing machine. His teammate bilbao hair waited for him and proved to be a faithful helper.
Burgaudeau keeps his mountain jersey
On the 198,2 kilometer long stage from Sisteron to La Colle-sur-Loup, ten breakaways initially dominated the race. The Germans were represented at the front George Zimmerman (Intermarché – Wanty) and the Austrian Mark Haller (Bora – hansgrohe) also sprinter Laurence Pithie (Groupama – FDJ) and Mads pedersen (Lidl-Trek). But it was particularly exciting between Mathieu Burgaudeau (TotalEnergies) and Christian Scaroni (Astana) in the fight for the mountain points. The Frenchman ultimately had the upper hand and will therefore also be at the start tomorrow - in the shortened seventh stage - in the mountain jersey.
