Classic Brugge – De Panne: Philipsen wins ahead of Merlier and van Poppel

March 20, 2024 by Michael Behringer

Philipsen De Panne

Cycling: Jasper Philipsen continues to ride the wave of success. After Milan – Sanremo at the weekend, the Belgian now also won the Classic Bruges – De Panne.

Philipsen wins in De Panne

The 48th edition of the Classic Bruges-De Panne begins Jasper Phillipsen (Alpecin – Deceuninck). The Belgian left his compatriot behind in the expected mass sprint after 198,9 kilometers from Bruges to De Panne Tim Merlier (Soudal – Quick-Step) behind him. A few meters before the finish line there was dangerous contact between the two top favorites. However, since both of them were able to stay on the bike thanks to their good control of the bike, there was no fall - on the contrary. The Dutchman Danny van Poppel (Bora – hansgrohe) only stayed in third place behind the Belgian duo. But he can be happy with that too. Because around ten kilometers before the finish he came off the road and had to fight his way through the entire peloton again.
