Cycling: Nils Politt missed the big coup at the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad. The German came second on the opening weekend behind the Slovenian Jan Tratnik. The race was exciting right up to the last second and makes you excited for the upcoming classics.

Nils Politt & Jan Tratnik attack shortly before the goal

The classic season almost got off to a perfect start for the German professionals. Nils Politt (UAE) narrowly missed out on winning the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad by losing the two-man sprint against the Slovenian Jan Tratnik (Visma – Lease a Bike) lost. A few kilometers from the finish, both made the decisive attack. Politt, who only moved from the German racing team Bora – hansgrohe to the UAE Team Emirates at the beginning of the season, can be satisfied with his first classic performance for his new team. Before, everything looked as if a six-man leading group would fight for victory. However, tactical shenanigans ensured that the race started again just before the finish.

Visma – Lease a Bike (actually) had everything under control

As announced, the Visma – Lease a Bike team made the 79th edition of Omloop Het Nieuwsblad difficult. On the 202,2 kilometer long course from Ghent to Ninove, the professionals not only went up and down constantly, but also over numerous cobblestone sections. The Dutch team actually had everything under control when they arrived Wout van Aert, Christophe Laporte and Matteo Jorgenson had three riders in the six-man leading group. But her companions – Tom's Skujins (Lidl-Trek), thomas pidcock (Ineos Grenadiers) and Arnaud de Lie (Lotto – Dstny) – made life difficult for them. They were able to neutralize many attacks. It wasn't until Jorgenson started that they let him go. A few kilometers later, however, everything came together again - even the second group that had been left behind came back and the race started again.
