Children's bikes 2024: These are the top 3 of our readers
The Avanti Sport is an everyday children's bike in a classic style with a three-speed hub gear, back pedal plus two rim brakes and mudguards, which come here in the “sporty” short form. The shaft stem allows easy height adjustment; The special frame shape ensures a low overhang height. The suspension fork is of course an eye-catcher for small children, but technically it makes little sense. This contributes to the fact that the medium-priced bike is rather heavy. The permanently mounted lighting system with hub dynamo is very good for everyday use; a luggage rack can be retrofitted.

Puky offers the LS-Pro from 16 to 26 inches, which is great if your bike taste doesn't change from toddler to teenager. With a low standover height and an upright posture, which is also helped by the upwardly cranked handlebars, the aluminum-look bike is tailored to small cyclists. The transmission range of the seven-speed gearbox is a bit tight; The V-brakes are suitable for children and there is also a parking stand on the bike. The Puky is also relatively inexpensive and, at just over eight kilos, quite light.

With the Riprock 20, the US manufacturer has an extremely sporty kids MTB in its range, whose sitting position is unusually sporty thanks to the short head tube. This bike is not necessarily suitable as an everyday bike, but it is very attractive as an MTB: The price-performance ratio is great, especially since Specialized supplies thru axles, internal cables and hydraulic disc brakes. With 11-42 teeth, the eleven-speed derailleur has a wide range of steps, with a 30 chainring ensuring an overall gear ratio suitable for mountains. The 2.35 inch wide tires are suitable for MTB use; the weight around ten kilos is okay.
