Hip bag in the test: Uswe Zulo 6L Hydration Waist Pack

September 19, 2023 by Florian Strigel

Uswe Zulo 6L Hydration Waist Pack

TEST: The Uswe Zulo 6L Hydration Waist Pack is equipped with a wide belt that wraps well around the hips. The hip bag therefore promises a good fit. With a volume of 6 L, it is one of the largest in the test. You can find out how the hipbag performs on the trail here.

Uswe Zulo 6L Hydration Waist Pack in the test

The Uswe Zulo 6L Hydration Waist Pack comes with a very wide, well-padded hip belt and a large volume of 6 L. The Swedish company relies on large fin pockets and a fold-out front compartment. If the bright color concept is too blatant for you, there is a subtle black as an alternative. The hip bag is designed for the use of a hydration bladder - this is also included. Nice details such as an attachment for a rear light round off the overall concept and create greater expectations for the hip bag. At a price of around €140, these should also be met.

Compartment layout & inner workings

With a volume of 6 L, the Uswe Zulo 6L Hydration Waist Pack naturally has plenty of space - one would think. However, the main compartment is filled quite quickly with a full bladder, spare tube, pump and windbreaker, even if other small things can be stuffed into it. But that's not necessary, because there's room for everything in the well-structured front compartment and can be neatly stored and organized. While this compartment can be opened completely and makes its contents easily accessible, a larger opening would not hurt the main compartment.
The large fin pockets offer additional storage space. Various latches, the cell phone and tools fit easily here and there is still space left. All in all, we find the interior well structured and practical.

The main compartment offers enough storage space, but the opening could be larger.

The front compartment can be opened wide. The cell phone also fits in the latch pocket.

There is space for compact cell phones in the large fin pockets.

On the other hand, you can accommodate a tool and several bars.

Strap & adjustment options

The wide hip belt of the Uswe Zulo 6L Hydration Waist Pack is a lot of fun. It is the widest strap in the test field, comfortable to wear thanks to mesh and neoprene and somewhat stretchy. It is secured with Velcro and an additional strap, the circumference of which can be easily adjusted on the left side. The large adjustment range makes the hip bag particularly interesting for slim people.
The compression straps are also very well solved. They are easy to use and hold the contents in the main compartment well in place without compressing the front compartment too much. The compression straps are also suitable for attaching protectors when climbing.
Overall, Uswe has one of the best systems here.

In action & on the trail

The Uswe Zulo 6L Hydration Waist Pack is very comfortable on the trail, and even when fully filled there is hardly any wobble. With less content, the hip bag fits pretty perfectly. The compression straps work well and handling is generally comfortable. Uswe has delivered a very good hip bag here.

protector mount
Officially, the hip bag does not have a protector holder, but the compression straps can be misused for this purpose.
