Product news: The fifth generation of the Giant Defy Endurance road bike is designed to offer a wide range of models in different price categories, giving all riders the opportunity to go further and faster with greater efficiency, comfort and control. To make this possible, the carbon frame and some components have been completely redeveloped and revised.
The new Giant Defy Endurance lineup includes three variants (Defy Advanced SL, Defy Advanced Pro and Defy Advanced) of Defy carbon road bikes, designed from the ground up to provide a smoother, lighter and more efficient endurance ride. The completely redesigned frame and specially developed components ensure an unbeatable mix of low weight, strong propulsion and optimal smoothness in all models, for the highest level of long-distance performance on the road.
One of the key development goals of the Defy series was to improve performance without overcomplicating the design. Even though the Defy sees itself in the endurance range, it was driven by top professionals at Paris-Roubaix, among other places. This input and feedback from the drivers was used to further advance the development process.
One of the results of these competition tests was also to avoid shock absorbers, bushings or other additional parts that are now used in some endurance racing bikes. These shock-absorbing technologies can sometimes achieve certain performance characteristics - but at the expense of weight, durability and ease of maintenance. Factors that are often the top priority for recreational athletes. So that comfort is not neglected, the new Giant Defy relies on the innovations that have proven themselves over the years in the previous evolutionary stages and improves these areas. This includes the new D-Fuse seat post, which offers high compliance with the lowest weight, and a new Contact D-Fuse handlebar, which transfers the same design principles and advantages to the front part of the bike.
According to the manufacturer, the new Giant Defy frames are handmade in the Giant Group Carbon factory. Each specimen must meet goals for crucial factors such as vertical flexibility. This quality management made it possible to achieve first-class values for all models in the new Defy lineup. The frame of the new series flagship, the Defy Advanced SL, weighs a feather-light 785 grams, making it a full 293 g (19,9%) lighter than the previous generation's top model. In-house tests have shown that the new frame is also 28% more efficient when pedaling. The fork of the new Defy Advanced SL series weighs 350 g, making it 15% lighter than the previous generation.
For better performance in terms of comfort and riding experience, low seatstays have been installed in the rear part of the bike to absorb shocks and vibrations transmitted from the rear wheel to the rider. At the front, this function is performed by the newly designed fork. The seat post and the handlebars with their D-shaped tubes fit into the overall concept and also support the rider.
For an even wider range of uses and additional suitability for everyday use, the new Giant Defy models offer the option of mounting wider tires of up to 38 mm. The bikes also have integrated mudguard mounts for riding in wet weather. In addition, all Defy models are equipped with two carbon bottle cages specifically designed for the Defy series.
