Vuelta a Espana #11: Jesus Herrada wins as a breakaway ahead of Romain Gregoire

Cycling: Jesus Herrada won the eleventh stage of the Vuelta a Espana. The Spaniard came out on top ahead of Frenchman Romain Gregoire at Laguna Negra. To put it mildly, nothing happened among the class riders. The winner of the day can be all the happier. With his success today he also took the lead in the mountains classification.

No fewer than 26 riders broke away from the peloton on today's 163,2 kilometer stage from Lerma to Laguna Negra in Vinuesa. The biggest names among them wore the jersey of the British team Ineos Grenadiers. Filippo Ganna, who won the time trial yesterday was also at the front Geraint Thomas. The role of favorite was actually clearly distributed, but everything turned out differently on the final climb. Geraint Thomas simply couldn't get rid of his companions. His lack of explosiveness meant that he was unable to mount a real attack. So on the last kilometer there was a fight between eight drivers. Finally fit Jesus Herrada (Cofidis) captured the perfect moment. The Spaniard dismissed the French super talent Romain Gregory (Groupama – FDJ) in second place and Andrew Kron (Lotto – Dstny) in third place. The favorites crossed the finish line together without any significant attack.
