Cycling: The road cycling world championships opened in Glasgow on Saturday. The juniors were already on the track and won the medals in the road race. The BDR can also be happy: Paul Fietzke won silver.
Paul Fietzke only had to admit defeat to Albert Philipsen
The BDR could almost have repeated the gold medal in the World Championship competition for juniors after Emil Herzog was successful last year. This time it turned out Paul Fietzke as the strongest German junior. Only the Dane Albert Phillipsen was stronger. With a lead of 1:19 minutes, the result was ultimately clear, because the only 16-year-old was able to break away from the seven-man lead group with 16 kilometers to go. As a soloist, he drove towards the gold medal and was finally able to celebrate with relief after a challenging 127,2 kilometers. The Norwegian drove behind the Dane and the German Felix Ørn-Kristoff in third place as he was narrowly defeated in the sprint for the silver medal.

Julie Bego wins the gold medal for France
Even before the juniors, the juniors were on track in Glasgow. 70,3 kilometers had to be completed. Julie Bego from France has ahead of the British Cat Ferguson and the Belgian Fleur Moors can prevail. The 18-year-old forced the decision on the penultimate lap by attacking from the leading group and not being caught. The selective course caused a fragmented field of favorites. The riders reached the finish in small groups or even as soloists. Best German was Hannah Kunz in 17th place, already 2:45 minutes behind. The Austrian Tabea Huys finished 20th, the Swiss Anina Hutter in 24th place.
