Vuelta a Espana #1: dsm - Firmenich cheers at a questionable start

Cycling: The team dsm - Firmenich won the start of the Vuelta a Espana. Lorenzo Milesi can therefore look forward to the first red jersey. Overall, however, this day will not be remembered well. Because of the heavy rain and the darkness at the end of the event, there can be no question of a fair competition.

dsm – Firmenich gets the first win

The start of the Vuelta a Espana 2023 in Barcelona fell into the water properly. Most of the teams had to complete the 14,8-kilometer team time trial in the pouring rain. The teams that started the race late were at a clear disadvantage. Because not only the rain increased, but also the darkness. So there was no chance for the late starters to win the start of the Vuelta a Espana. Only the Spanish team Movistar was able to set a good time on the wet asphalt very late and ended up second on the day. The Dutch team can therefore be happy dsm – company, who tackled the team time trial early and benefited from the relatively good weather conditions at the time. With that is Lorenzo Milesi the first wearer of the red jersey. The top favourites jonas vingegaard and Primois Roglic atoned with their team Jumbo–Visma 32 seconds on. The UAE Team Emirates lost with Juan Ayuso and Joao almeida 37 seconds. Remco Evenepoel (Soudal – Quick-Step) lost 6 seconds.

The second stage also ends in Barcelona

Tomorrow the 78th edition of the Vuelta a Espana will continue in Mataró. The second stage will end after 181,8 kilometers in Barcelona. There should be an exciting finish here, which is probably too difficult for pure sprinters. A strong puncher will probably secure the stage win and maybe the red jersey as well.
