Bicycle tire lever test: The Maxxis Premium Tire Levers certainly do not belong to the wallflower category. These tire levers don't want to be that either. Both the bold Maxxis lettering and the conspicuous orange color scheme suggest the impression: look here, here we are – there is no way around us. But is that really the case?
General information about the manufacturer
Founded more than 55 years ago, Maxxis is now one of the largest tire manufacturers in the world. The Taiwanese brand is omnipresent, especially in the bicycle sector. Many bicycles and e-bikes are already equipped with Maxxis tires from the factory. According to the manufacturer, prototypes of new products are extensively tested under competition conditions before series production. Bikemarketing BMG GmbH has been the exclusive importer of Maxxis bicycle tires for Germany and Austria since 2002.
Maxxis Premium Tire Levers: First Impression
The Premium Tire Levers made of POM/Nylon Polymer appear quite robust due to their design. Maxxis definitely didn't skimp on material for the heavily used middle section. Nevertheless, the two levers in the set together only weigh 36 grams - and that with a length of 114 millimeters each. The surface is smooth, while the prominent Maxxis lettering is roughened for extra grip. The bent-back spoke hook looks a bit filigree.
The bicycle tire levers in the test
The tire levers not only look robust and striking, but also allow for a hard grip. The shovel is still slim enough to find its way smoothly under the tire bead. The flexible material allows high leverage when working. The grip also leaves nothing to be desired. To make it easier to fix the spoke lever, it is bent back slightly. This works really well with spokes that are not too thick. Only the snap-together function is disappointing: the two levers can be put together, but the connection doesn't hold.
