Criterium du Dauphiné #5: Vingegaard takes the yellow jersey in the solo

June 8, 2023 by Michael Behringer

Vingegaard Dauphine

Cycling: Jonas Vingegaard has won the fifth stage of the Critérium du Dauphiné. The Dane was able to assert himself as a soloist in front of his opponents. He also takes over the yellow jersey.

Vingegaard simply leaves Carapaz standing

The reigning tour winner jonas vingegaard (Jumbo – Visma) has set a real exclamation mark. Just over three weeks before the start of the Tour de France, the Dane secured stage five at the Critérium du Dauphiné and with it the yellow jersey. On the 191,1-kilometer stretch from Cormoranche-sur-Saône to Salins-les-Bains, he countered an attack by Richard Carapaz (EF Education – EasyPost) and then drove towards the day's win as a soloist. Seven escapees, including with the Germans Nils Politt (Bora – hansgrohe), George Zimmerman (Intermarché – Circus – Wanty) and Leon Heinske (DSM), fought against being caught for a long time, but ultimately couldn't fight for the day's victory.
