Ended at the age of 39 Heinrich Haussler his active career as a professional cyclist. The native Australian, who drove for Germany until 2010, announced this yesterday, Friday. During the annual routine test in December last year, abnormalities were found in the heart. These have now been confirmed. After 18 years, he sees himself forced to retire. Nevertheless, he is positive about the future.
"If I stop now, I can say that I gave it my all and move on to the next stage of my life. I want to be a sports director, which I've been planning for the last three to four years. At the end of each season I had to decide whether I wanted to switch to the car or continue driving.”
2009 was his best season
Heinrich Haussler will switch to the sporting director of his team Bahrain – Victorious with immediate effect. He will certainly be of great help there, especially for the young drivers, because the Australian himself has had many successes in his long career. He celebrated his first professional victory in 2005 at the Vuelta a Espana. This was followed, among other things, by successes Criterium du Dauphiné, in the tour de swiss, at Paris – Nice and the Tour of Qatar. Heinrich Haussler had his best season in 2009. He won a stage in the Tour de France in solo and with Milan-Sanremo and the Tour of Flanders he came second. He just missed the really big victory at two monuments.
