With a steel core against stubborn bicycle tires: Park Tool TL-6.2 tire levers on test

April 28, 2023 by Andrew Waldera

Park Tool TL-6.2 tire levers on test

Bicycle tire lever test: Stubbornly seated bicycle tires not only place great demands on the nerves during disassembly or assembly, but also on the tire lever. Where conventional levers made of plastic have long been overwhelmed, the Park Tool TL-6.2 should help. Equipped with a steel core, this model is definitely a representative for the harder pace!

General information about the manufacturer

The US brand Park Tool has been making bicycle-specific tools for 60 years. The company was founded by Art Engstrom and Howard Hawkins, whose son Eric runs the company today. Unlike other tool manufacturers, Park Tool has specialized exclusively in the development and production of bicycle tools. The products enjoy a very good reputation all over the world, both among hobbyists and professional mechanics.

Park Tool TL-6.2 Tire Levers: First Impressions

The TL-6.2 tire lever was developed by Park Tool to combine the advantages of steel tire levers with those of composite materials in a single product. The steel core with an exposed tip is designed to ensure high stability and leverage so that even stubborn tire beads can be reliably gripped. The plastic sheathing is intended to ensure that work is gentle on the rims. The set consisting of two tire levers is offered at a price of 24,50 euros.

The bicycle tire levers in the test

Both the workmanship and the feel leave nothing to be desired. The edges, especially at the exposed tip, are cleanly deburred and the shape ensures a good grip. Due to the length of 126 millimeters and the stable construction, an enormous amount of force can be exerted with the lever. However, the surface of the plastic designed in the typical Park Tool design could be a bit rougher for this. With sweaty hands, a non-slip grip is not always guaranteed. We would also like a snap-together function and a spoke hook.

The Park Tool TL-6.2 steel core tire lever delivers what it promises. Tires that are stubborn can be peeled off the rim efficiently and assembly is also easy to do. Despite the plastic coating, sensitive rims should be handled with care. If you slip, the exposed metal tip can leave annoying scratches.
