Because the 35-year-old will start in the leader's jersey instead. Kristoff won the opening race of the Volta ao Algarve in a bunch sprint ahead of the Belgian Jordy Meeus (Bora – hansgrohe) and his teammate Soren Waerenskjold, who started the sprint perfectly. Previously, 200,2 kilometers had to be completed from Portimão to Lagos. The sprinter teams controlled the breakaways and left no doubt about a bunch sprint.
