UAE Tour #6: Tim Merlier sovereignly uses the last chance of the sprinters

February 25, 2023 by Michael Behringer

Tim Merlier UAE

Cycling: Tim Merlier won the sixth stage of the UAE Tour. The Belgian won the mass sprint in front of Sam Bennett.

Tim Merlier was unbeatable

The mass sprints of the past few days have been extremely close. Today, however, the winner could be sure of his victory. Tim Merlier (Soudal – Quick-Step) didn't give his opponent the slightest chance. The Belgian found the inside lane well positioned on the slightly left-handed home straight. Stayed that way Sam Bennett (Bora – hansgrohe) only second place. The podium completes Dylan Groenewegen (Jayco-AlUla). Unfortunately could not take part in the mass sprint Mark Cavendish (Astana). The Brit suffered a defect shortly before the finale. The overall standings continue to lead Remco Evenepoel (Soudal – Quick Step). But tomorrow he will have to prove himself again. Then it goes up the Jebel Hafeet. Attacks on the leader are to be expected.
