Readers' choice 2023: In what is now a good Velomotion tradition, our annual readers' choice took place again in the past few weeks. You, our readers, voted for the most exciting and popular bikes in a total of 17 categories. The results are always extremely exciting for us in the editorial team and also pointers to which bikes, manufacturers and categories we should take a close look at. We have divided the 2023 mountain bikes into three categories: fully, hardtail and entry-level.

The Velomotion readers' choice took place between December 15, 2022 and January 15, 2023. You have selected your favorites from a total of 17 bike categories. Over 12.000 votes were received this year - thanks to every single participant! After evaluating all the results, we don't want to keep you in suspense any longer and present you with the top 3 of all categories.

Here you will find an overview of all categories and their respective winners:

Mountain bikes 2023: These are the top 3 in the Fully category

1st place: Scott Genius 910 - 17,2% of the votes

The carbon trail bike gets 160/150 mm of spring travel (f/r) from the Fox chassis, with the damper of the four-bar rear triangle being fully integrated into the frame. Three riding modes can be selected for the damper and fork for different riding situations, which also optimize the seating position. The steering angle can be adjusted within a range of 1°. Electronic 1×12 shifting and a dropper post are also on board.

Price: € 7.499

2nd place: Specialized S-Works Stumpjumper Evo - 15,3% of the votes

The classy Stumpjumper Evo is a real dream bike that masters every trail with 150 mm of travel and low weight. Variable geometry includes 2° of head angle play, a 10mm lower bottom bracket and the option to run a 27,5” rear wheel. A hydration bladder can now also be accommodated in the storage compartment of the slim frame; Fox Factory suspension and SRAM parts are great.

Price: € 13.700

3rd place: Nicolai Nucleon 16 - 12,4% of the votes

Instead of making compromises in the position of the pivot point, Nicolai changes the point of application of the chain pull with a complex deflection of the chain. The unique frame shape also includes the rear derailleur rotated by 90° within the swing arm of the Supre Drivetrain. The suspension travel is 165 or 175 mm; the structure is always highly individual. This also includes the choice of wheel size.

Price: from € 7.499

3rd place: Cannondale Scalpel HT Hi-Mod Ultimate - 13,9% of the votes

2nd place: Cube Attention SLX - 13,8% of the votes

Attention please! Cube's trail hardtail Attetion SLX comes with a rather compact geometry and thus appeals to bikers whose focus is not on the fastest downhill time. For the price, you get high-quality Shimano XT gears and fair equipment. The bike is also visually appealing.

Price: € 1.099

To the Attention SLX on the Cube website

3rd place: YT Jeffsy Core 2 - 11,6% of the votes

The Core 2 comes with a high-quality aluminum frame for little money. The mix of components is also impressive. The aggressive trail bike is available in two versions: 29″ for those who like to accelerate and 27″ for those who like it more playful and don’t value the best Strava time. With the Jeffsy, beginners get a great bike that cuts a fine figure both uphill and downhill!
