Test: The German manufacturer Bikebeat describes itself as a young carbon start-up forge that develops, manufactures and sells (cycling) sports composites. Nevertheless, the manufacturer has been very busy on the market for a few years and we also had the opportunity to test wheels from the brand some time ago. With the Bikebeat high-flyer 2.0, we now had one of the latest models in our hands and tested the wheelset extensively in the autumn months.
When developing its wheels, Bikebeat relies on an advanced Airbus patent from the aerospace high-end sector. This enables you to braid carbon in a unique way by machine. When using this technology, no manual processes are required during production. This enables complete development and production in Germany in order to do justice to the "Made in Germany" label. Together with engineers, cycling experts and the influence of professional cyclists, high-tech carbon wheelsets are created at the highest level, which are now going into the second round, which can also be seen from the suffix 2.0 in large parts of the range.
Bikebeat high-flyer 2.0 tested
As already mentioned, we once again tested a wheelset from the German manufacturer. This time we have chosen a very special model because the Bikebeat high-flyer 2.0 offers a wide range of applications with its various properties, which cannot be defined exactly. Because with the best tubeless properties and an inner width of 19mm, the rim offers enough space for road bike, all-road or gravel tires.
In addition, there is an all-round rim height of 47mm, which combines aerodynamics, stability and an attractive weight. With robust and durable DT Swiss hubs, the Bikebeat high-flyer 2.0 weighs around 1500 grams per set, which is a real announcement with this broad orientation. The high-flyers 2.0 also have a lot to offer optically, because here too they remain true to their approach and only focus on minimalistic, because they don't want to hide behind anything and offer one of the most puristic wheelsets in the world.
But enough of the theory, now one naturally asks oneself how the wheelset really rides in the end. We can reveal that much, we were not disappointed. But first things first... because we tested the wheelset primarily in the all-road range on our autumn rides. There could also be some gravel here and there or worse roads.
The low weight was particularly convincing right at the beginning of our test, which quickly led to the mental conclusion that it was called "high-flyer". In conjunction with good stiffness, the wheels can also score in terms of acceleration, since you can feel a direct power transmission to the road without wasting energy and not arriving where it should. Nevertheless, the wheelset with the right tires can take a lot and roll over rougher sections unimpressed.
In our opinion, the 47 millimeter high rim finds a good compromise between rolling properties, lightweight construction and stability, especially for these all-round uses, in order to offer the necessary something on every terrain. This always gave us an extremely safe and comfortable feeling. For us, a super all-round wheelset with a wide range of uses.
