High quality DIY bike repair tool kit: Unior Home Kit tool case put to the test

22 December 2022 by Andrew Waldera

Unior Home Kit

Test bicycle tools: The Unior Group is a global player in the field of hand tools and machine tools. For maintenance work on the bike, the company offers a special tool case with 34 selected Unior tools. What can and may be expected at the price of just under 330 euros?

Unior Home Kit

General information about the manufacturer

Unior hand tools (hand tools) are a product range from Unior dd The globally active group is one of the world's largest companies in the field of metal processing. In addition to hand tools, the portfolio also includes machine tools. Unior is also one of the most important suppliers of forged parts for well-known European automobile manufacturers and their system suppliers.

Unior Home Kit tool case: first impression

The suitcase already makes it clear that Unior relies on high quality for the Home Kit. The very stable hard-shell case with a double lock that closes tightly is one of the best that is currently available on the market. Dustproof and waterproof according to IP67, the tool is perfectly protected from external influences. Inside, foam inserts ensure optimal fixation of the tool. The cutouts in the inserts are marked with laser-milled names or codes of the tools. Both the removal and the re-insertion of the tool can be done quickly without any annoying freezing.

Processing and feel

The positive impression of the Unior Home Kit case also continues with the tools. The quality of the contents of the case deserves the rating "excellent" and leaves nothing to be desired. The tools are easy to hold and ensure efficient work. Only with the chain whip and the bottom bracket wrench could the coating be a bit more grippy - i.e. more non-slip. Although the chain tool is not a design object, it is easy to pack and use. The two tire levers made of plastic have a special recessed grip for a better feel and are ultra-stable.

Which repairs are possible and can the tool convince in use?

The manufacturer describes the Home Kit as the perfect beginner's set, which over time can or should grow into the ideal set for the home workshop through individual extensions. For this purpose, the case has an additional foam insert that can be adjusted as required. However, the equipment can already be seen in its original condition. Most repairs can be easily carried out on common bicycle models using the tools provided. The set is completed by the Disc Brake Tool, a disc brake tool that really makes sense in a bicycle case and unfortunately is not considered by many other manufacturers.
