Vaude bikepacking bags: Everything included on adventures

2 December 2022 by Florian Nowak

Test Vaude bikepacking bags: When out and about with a gravel bike, all the luggage is attached directly to the bike, so that as a sporty biker you can enjoy full freedom of movement - that's what more and more cyclists are looking for. From clothing to light tents, insulating mats and sleeping bags, Vaude offers all the equipment you need and has also had special bikepacking bags in its range for a long time.

Bikepacking has been enjoying increasing popularity for years. Terms such as overnighters, micro-adventures or 5to9 adventures, which are also often used in this context, ultimately all aim at similar experiences of freedom and adventure. Depending on the time, desire and degree of spontaneity in the form of small or large escapes from everyday life. In any case only with the most necessary luggage and preferably with an overnight stay in the open air - and if the whole thing takes place on two wheels as bikepacking: with the luggage on the bike!

Vaude Trail Series bags

The Vaude Trail Series has everything that demanding bikepackers need. The seven bags in the series can be used flexibly, pack down small and adapt perfectly to the respective requirements on the go. If the weather turns bad, don't worry - the bags are reliably waterproof and can easily cope with tougher gravel missions!

If you want to really get started with bikepacking, the Trail bag series is the perfect companion. The series consists of the multifunctional Trail Pack II backpack (8 liters), the Trail Front II handlebar bag with removable pack sack (12,5l), the Trail Saddle II saddlebag (10l), the Trailmulti II fork bag (6l) and the Trailguide II frame bag (3 liters, all also with a removable stuff sack). The slightly smaller Trailframe II frame bag (2,5l) is the perfect finishing touch. The bags can hold a total of 42 liters.

The bags therefore offer maximum flexibility and always just as much storage space as you need - depending on the length and complexity of the trip, you sometimes take more or fewer bags with you.

Vaude Trail Pack II

The multifunctional Trail Pack II deserves a special mention. It doesn't matter whether it's rain showers when gravelling or a thunderstorm when bikepacking - the backpack, which is equipped with a practical roll-top closure, can handle anything and shines with a long product life. If not everything fits in the pack sack - no problem! The Trail Pack II offers a variety of attachment options. The 8-liter pack sack can be used, for example, to store a change of clothing, a snack or rain gear - other items, including tents or packages, can be attached to the so-called "cage" into which the pack sack is placed. The Trail Pack II is almost perfect for tours that require maximum flexibility. If you have to store the small purchase quickly when bikepacking - no problem. If the temperatures rise during the course of the day - the insulation layer is quickly packed away. If you no longer need the backpack yourself because you have freed up storage space in other bags on the way, the Trail Pack II can be packed away small.

Trailpacks for handlebars, saddle and frame

Trailfront, Trailsaddle and Trailframe - these are the three bags with which VAUDE sends adventurous bikers onto the trail. All models are equipped with a roll closure. This makes them easy to use and easy to compress. They are made from PVC-free tarpaulin material and are welded completely waterproof. The water-repellent Eco Finish finish on the outside does not contain environmentally harmful fluorocarbons (PFC). The handlebar and seat post bag take most of the luggage. Thanks to the central attachment, you keep control of the bike and remain agile even on rough trails. Both models are designed in such a way that the suspension always remains attached to the bike and the actual pack sack can be removed quickly and easily. “Depending on the bike, attaching it to the handlebars and under the saddle can be a bit complicated and tricky. That's why we developed a bag hanger that, once attached, stays on the bike for the entire tour," says Rafael Erath Product Manager at VAUDE. The frame bag can be completely removed using a combination of click and tension locks, as attachment to the frame is more accessible and much easier. All three models have a total packing volume of 39 liters. The handlebar bag has additional straps for attaching additional luggage.

With a volume of 12 liters, the Trailsaddle model, which is attached under the saddle, is ideal for stowing away equipment that is not needed during the ride. Practical feature: It not only keeps your luggage dry, but also you by serving as a splash guard. The compression straps on the side of the bag suspension, which is attached to the seat post, give the pack sack sufficient support and prevent it from coming loose while riding.

The Trailfront handlebar bag is accessible from two sides via roll-top fasteners. The packsack has a volume of 19 liters and is ideal for rather light luggage such as a sleeping pad and sleeping bag or weatherproof clothing. A practical feature is the carrying strap, with which the packsack can be carried loosely over the shoulder. Flexible compression straps on the frame give the handlebar bag enough support and stability while riding. Additional luggage, such as a light tent or bivy bag, can be attached using packing straps on the top. The suspension of the pack sack is easily attached to the handlebar or head tube. Thanks to the practical spacers and the width-adjustable fixings, there is always enough freedom for the brake and shift cables.

The easy-to-access Trailframe frame bag with a volume of 8 liters is ideal for heavy luggage such as tools, camping stoves or provisions thanks to its low center of gravity. Practical feature: The 2 lower fastening straps can be removed, which means that the length of the packsack is adjustable and can also be attached to bikes with rear wheel suspension. The bag is fixed to the top tube with strong, rubberized straps.
