Top 10 Drivers 2022: 10th place - Marc Hirschi is slightly improved

22 November 2022 by Michael Behringer

Hirsch

Cycling: In the coming days we will review the 2022 season and present you our top 10 German-speaking riders. We can already reveal that Germans, Swiss and Austrians have made it into our ranking. No one less than Marc Hirschi made the start. Nevertheless, the Swiss should not really be satisfied with his season.

Hirschi continues to follow his top form

A new star was born when Marc Hirschi won a stage in the Tour de France and the Flèche Wallonne in 2020. At that time still in the jersey of Sunweb. At the end of the season, the Swiss switched to Team UAE – and there were no top performances. In 2021 he was only victorious once. He won a stage in Luxembourg. It should be a little better this year. Hirschi celebrated four times, but he was not able to win any of his WorldTour victories. Still, in a way, he was bouncing back. Finishing ninth in the Amstel Gold Race and in Liège – Bastogne – Liège we have to count on him again for important races in the future.

Are you still having problems with your hips?

We can't really rate whether the team change from Sunweb to UAE hasn't done him any good. Because right at the beginning of his engagement, Marc Hirschi had to struggle with hip problems. In January of this year he underwent an operation. So twice in a row the now 24-year-old Swiss was unable to prepare optimally for the season. He also had to step in at the Tour de France and help out captain Tadej Pogacar. This will probably also be the case in the coming season. But if Hirschi will finally be able to prepare for his season highlights again without any symptoms, we can expect Marc Hirschi to be in top form again for 2023.
