Test tool case: For just under 100 euros, Brüder Mannesmann Werkzeuge offers a tool set with a total of 33 parts that is intended to enable the most important work on the bike. The tool is delivered in a robust aluminum case with a foam insert. What can or may be expected at the quite manageable price?
General information about the manufacturer
Brothers Mannesmann tools are, according to their own information, the last existing successor company of the Mannesmann family. The company, which specializes in the manufacture of tools of all kinds, is now managed by Frank and Moritz Schafstein. With more than 2.000 items, the extensive and multi-faceted range offers the optimal solution for every challenge. A solution to this is the 33-piece bicycle tool set available to us for the tool test, item no. 00650.
Brüder Mannesmann 33-piece bicycle tool kit: first impression
The 33-piece bicycle tool set is delivered in a robust aluminum case with metal snap fasteners. The foam insert inside the case reliably holds the tool in place. The only exception to this is the only Torx key in the set. Manufactured from chrome vanadium steel, the tool conforms to general standard specifications. The three tire levers included in the scope of delivery are of course made of plastic to protect the rim and tire.
Processing and feel
The tool is solidly made, although it certainly cannot be said to be of high quality. The fitting accuracy of the individual elements is good and thus enables efficient and material-friendly work. Some tools such as the chain whip or the pedal wrench are black and show unsightly scratches after various uses. The casing made of soft plastic enables a high level of force to be used and convinces with a really good feel. The somewhat flimsy chain tool is not entirely convincing.
Which repairs are possible and can the tool convince in use?
With the Brüder Mannesmann 33-piece bicycle tool set, basic work on conventional bicycles is possible, but with modern standards the manageable selection reaches its limits. Completely inscrutable to us is the lack of Torx keys (aside from the included T25). We would also like to see a cartridge bottom bracket tool for installing and removing Shimano and ISIS bottom bracket shells. The combination pliers in the case are quite nice, but have no place in a bicycle tool box.
