1970s charm with innovative technologies: Diamant 885 vintage city bike with Electra Flatfoot Technology

6 October 2022 by Andrew Waldera

Product news: Retro is in! Maybe it's because of the uncertain times, but maybe it's also because past trends and products are incredibly appealing to many people. Of course, cyclists are not excluded from this – who doesn’t marvel at old bikes with their many chrome parts that stray into town every now and then. But it doesn't always have to be old. The new Diamant 885 vintage city bike for the 2023 season radiates the charm of the 1970s, without the user having to forego the achievements of modern times.

With the new 885, the traditional German brand Diamant is launching a bicycle that is designed for versatile and everyday trips in the city. The design language is based on the 1970s and thus ensures a unique recognition value. This model definitely stands out from the crowd. The Hartmannsdorf-based manufacturer impressively proves with the 885 that a city bike doesn't have to be boring. Not only the equipment promises a lot of dynamics and high flexibility, but also the frame itself. This was developed together with the American sister brand Electra. That's why Diamant can and is allowed to use Electra's "Flatfoot Technology" on the 885.

The new Diamant 885: "Flatfoot Technology" for more comfort and driving safety

The technology already known from Electra stands for a plus in comfort and driving safety. When sitting on the bike, both feet can be flat and firmly on the ground. This is made possible by the special design of the aluminum frame with the seat tube tilted backwards. The design statement is also underlined by internally routed cables and clean welds. The equipment package of the Diamant 885 vintage city bike includes mechanical disc brakes and a low-maintenance Shimano Nexus 8 hub gear. Thanks to the MIK system, the luggage rack offers a lot of flexibility for baskets and bags.

With the introduction of the model for the 2023 season, however, a Diamant classic will also be phased out: The 885 will replace the Topas model, which has remained unchanged for over 30 years.
