Novelties 2023: Pegasus with full suspension and a lot of facelifts

August 18, 2022 by Caspar Gebel

Innovations Pegasus: The Cologne-based specialist for e-trekking and e-city bikes is presenting interesting innovations, including a trekking fully for the first time. The model range is upgraded with the introduction of the Bosch Smart System in other models, even those with a frame battery. Velomotion presents the most important innovations from Pegasus.

Pegasus occupies a special position among the brands of the Kölner Zweirad-Einkaufs-Genossenschaft. Founded more than 40 years ago by the nucleus of ZEG, an association of several bicycle dealers who wanted to achieve better purchasing conditions, Pegasus is the association's original own brand, geared towards the important segment of city, touring and trekking bikes. It is precisely this market segment in which electrification found its way early, and so e-bikes have been an important mainstay of the brand for many years - which also means that Pegasus has a lot of experience with e-bikes and coherent models with high-quality equipment and well thought-out details offers. The Cologne-based company is confidently aiming for the upper and top class, which means consistently high-quality Bosch motors with the corresponding good driving characteristics for the customer. And so buying a Pegasus is actually always a good decision.

After the big bike fairs of the summer, one can start to wonder: is it worth waiting for the 2023 model year bikes, or is it wiser to choose from the '22 bikes available at the local ZEG dealer ? To clarify this, Velomotion has looked at the Pegasus innovations and presents the highlights of the coming model year. A lot is new, such as the first full-suspension e-trekking bike from Pegasus, which those who want maximum comfort should definitely wait for. The combination of Bosch Smart System and smaller battery sizes has never existed before. Otherwise there are numerous model maintenance measures that make the Pegasus bikes more attractive in detail - but since the level was already high, the e-bikes currently available are certainly not outdated!

Pegasus Strong EVO 11 Lite

from € 4.699

Pegasus novelties
A super stable frame and selected components make the Strong EVO a master loader.

There is a sensible model upgrade in the Strong series with e-bikes that can carry a good 150 kilos of payload. The Strong EVO 12 Lite has become the new EVO 11 Lite as a result of changes in detail: The lack of a fast gear is more than compensated for by the easy adjustability of the gears; Of course, it is more important that the extremely stable, sporty motorized bike with Bosch Performance CX is now available with different battery variants and therefore at different prices. There is a choice of power storage units with 500, 625 and 750 Wh. Highlights such as the Bosch Smart System, a super-bright 100-lux front light and the softly responsive and optimally adjustable air suspension fork with a travel of 75 mm have remained. Not to forget the lowerable and spring-loaded seat post, which ensures maximum comfort.

Pegasus Premio EVO 5F Lite Belt Comfort

from € 4.499

Low-maintenance and comfortable…
... available as a step-through or men's frame.

When it comes to ease of use and ergonomics, the Premio EVO Comfort cannot be beaten: the scope of equipment includes the innovative butterfly handlebars with different grip positions and springy handlebar ends, as well as an optimally responsive parallelogram seat post. In the 2023 version, the e-bike with the reliable five-speed gear hub is now available with the Bosch Smart System, the advantages of which are networked components and connectivity functions. The powerful Performance CX drive is now powered by batteries with 500, 625 or 750 watt hours - the 400 Wh variant has been dropped. A useful upgrade is the use of a toothed belt instead of the chain, which means that the bike requires significantly less maintenance.

Pegasus Premio EVO ABS

from € 4.899

Pegasus novelties
ABS for e-bikes is an important safety feature; with a new, compact design, it fits in even better.

An absolute novelty in the Premio model series is the EVO ABS. The anti-lock braking system from Bosch has been significantly further developed: the smaller control unit is now on the fork, and the new version also offers the option of calling up information on braking processes on the display and using this to adapt braking behavior. The ABS indicator light is integrated into the new LED Remote, the keypad of the Bosch Smart System - because this is also part of the Premio EVO ABS, which is strongly pushed by the Performance CX and is available with batteries with 500, 625 and 750 Wh. Components such as the MonkeyLoad system luggage rack, a 100 lux spotlight and the long-travel Suntour suspension fork with 80 mm travel are typical of the high quality of the model series.

Pegasus Savino EVO FS10 Lite

from € 4.899

Pegasus novelties
The first full-suspension model from Pegasus offers maximum comfort and easy handling thanks to the lowerable seat post.

Pegasus is breaking new ground with the EVO FS10: For the first time, the company, which is based in the city/trekking sector, is bringing a full-suspension model onto the market that incorporates the typical, no-frills Pegasus look and offers top performance in terms of driving comfort and safety. SR Suntour air suspension fork and damper are for 100mm travel front and rear good and can be easily adjusted to the driver's weight; The high pivot point of the rear swing arm ensures that the chain pull does not affect the performance of the suspension on a bike with a powerful Bosch CX motor. To compensate for the slightly higher bottom bracket, Pegasus specified a lowerable seat post for the new model. Matching the long-travel chassis, the Savino FS is equipped with slightly more heavily profiled, 62 mm wide tires, which means that it can also be moved safely on unpaved roads. The e-trekking bike is equipped with a reliable ten-speed derailleur, with a new variant of the tight-fitting "Hebie Chain Glider" chain guard. On the motor side, the full-suspension bike impresses with the Bosch Smart System and battery variants from 500 to 750 Wh.

Pegasus Solero E5R Belt Sport Performance

from € 3.899

The Solero Sport Performance bridges the gap between touring bike and e-SUV with new Bosch technology. For the first time, the Bosch Smart System - networked components, larger batteries and the LED remote on the handlebar grip to operate the display functions - is also available in combination with the powerful, yet easily controllable performance motor, as well as with frame batteries, which the Solero has with 545 or 725 Wh there. The power storage unit, which is easy to remove, allows the construction of a very slim frame, which is available in three variants - monotube, trapezoid and diamond.

With the Nexus Inter-5, the Shimano gear hub especially for e-bikes, the Solero is primarily designed for everyday use and touring; However, a 100 mm suspension fork and powerfully profiled 62 tires ensure that it also feels comfortable on uneven natural paths - keyword e-SUV. Therefore, the new touring bike with back pedal is a true all-rounder that attracts with a reasonable price.

Pegasus Premio EVO 10 Lite

from € 3.899

Pegasus novelties
On the popular Premio EVO 10 Lite, the Bosch Smart System is now also available with a 500 and 625 battery.

Fine-tuning of the evergreen: The bestseller in the Pegasus range was brought up to date in two steps. The Bosch Smart System with a 10 Wh battery was introduced in the current model year with the Premio EVO 750 Lite 750; to do this, the frame had to be redesigned, which of course can only be seen in detail. The two model variants running in parallel have now been combined, meaning that the Premio EVO 10 Lite can now be ordered with batteries with a capacity of 500, 625 and 750 watt hours - in all cases with the high-torque Bosch Performance CX and Smart System.

In terms of equipment, on the other hand, there was nothing to optimize on the Premio EVO 10 Lite, and so the popular model remains true to almost all components. The ten-speed derailleur gears with 11 to 46 teeth at the rear are so widely graduated that an upgrade to eleven or twelve gears makes little sense. The sensitively responding air suspension fork with 75 mm of travel is also the best for this category. The versatile system luggage rack is also known; There was a small update for the tires, which are now 55 instead of 50 mm wide. Just the finishing touches on the bestseller, which is available in four color variants and three frame shapes.
