News: One day before the 1972th anniversary of the attack at the 50 Munich Olympics, FC Bayern calls on its members and fans to take part in the FC Bayern commemorative bicycle tour. True to the motto "Be active together - remember together" on Sunday, September 4th, 2022, we will be going from the Munich Olympic Park to the air base in Fürstenfeldbruck. Cyclists of all ages can cover the path between the two crime scenes together and commemorate the twelve fatalities to set an example that memories stay alive and keep people moving. Prominent cyclists from politics, culture and sport, as well as FC Bayern President Herbert Hainer and the Israeli Consul General Carmela Shamir will also be there.
The aim of the campaign, initiated by the Israeli Consulate General and the General German Bicycle Club, is to symbolically link the two fateful locations of the assassination. The participants can not only use the almost 25-kilometer route in a sporty way for mutual exchange and dialogue, but also find out about the biographies of the victims. The main focus is deliberately placed on the human component by recalling the personal stories of the eleven Israeli athletes murdered by Palestinian terrorists and the police officer who was killed.
The commemoration event is an important part of the activities planned in and around Munich to mark the 50th anniversary of the 1972 Olympic Games. From today, August 26, the FC Bayern Museum will also be able to see the special exhibition “50 years of Munich Olympic Stadium – FC Bayern under the tent roof” to illuminate the venue where the German record champions played before moving to the Allianz Arena celebrated successes.
