Track European Championship: Hinze is again crowned Gold Emma in Munich

August 16, 2022 by Michael Behringer

Hinze Emma European Championship Munich

Cycling: Emma Hinze is the dominator of Munich. With three gold medals at the European Track Cycling Championships, the 24-year-old is crowned Queen of the European Championships. But she is not the only German who wins precious metal at home.

Hinze becomes Gold Emma again

Already at the Track Cycling World Championships in Berlin two years ago Emma Hinze Celebrated as Gold Emma. At that time she won three world championship titles. Now she managed the same feat again at the European Track Cycling Championships in Munich. The Cottbus native won on Friday together with Pauline Grabosch and Leah Sophie Friedrich the gold medal in the team sprint. While the German trio was still just behind after round #1, they finally turned it up and didn't give the Dutch women a chance. Just one day later, Emma Hinze fell behind. She won the 500 meter time trial with ease. In the end, she was almost eight tenths faster than second-placed Miriam Vece from Italy. And on Monday she crowned "her" European Championships in Munich with a sprint success. France's Mathilde Gros won the second heat but lost the first and third. Emma Hinze can once again take home three gold medals.

Kröger and Friedrich secure 2x gold

You can also celebrate Mike Kroeger. The 29-year-old won two gold medals at the European Championships in Munich. On Friday, she raced alongside Lisa Brennauer, Franziska Brausse and Lisa Klein to win the team pursuit. After 1.000, as well as after 2.000 and 3.000 meters, the German foursome was behind the Italians. But after 4.000 meters - and after all that's the only thing that counts - they were ahead. A day later, Mieke Kröger was the fastest in the single pursuit. In the final she defeated Lisa Brennauer by more than a second. The last medal for the women was secured Leah Sophie Friedrich on the final day. In the keirin, the world champion lived up to her role as a favourite.

The men were also successful

The men cannot quite keep up with the golden shine of the women at the European Railway Championships in Munich. At least you can Nicolas Heinrich happy about the European title. Completely surprisingly, the only 20-year-old won the single pursuit, well ahead of Italy's Davide Plebani. Silver celebrated in the 15 kilometer scratch Moritz Malcharek. Also finished second Theo Reinhardt in the elimination race – incidentally behind road cyclist Elia Viviani. About bronze may Maximilian Dornbach be happy. In the 1.000 meter time trial, he was narrowly defeated by Frenchman Melvin Landerneau and Italian Matteo Bianchi. On the last day of the European Championships and at the same time in the last competition, they triumphed at the grand finale Roger Kluge and Theo Reinhardt. In the Madison, the successful duo confidently prevailed against the competition.
