TEST: Bull's Wild Ronin Team: All-rounder with fun guarantee

June 8, 2022 by the editorial office

At the core of the modern mountain bike scene, Bulls doesn't necessarily have the hippest reputation. However, athletes like Christian Textor prove with their skills that the mountain bikes of the German brand have a lot of potential. Exactly the same applies to the Bulls Wild Ronin - with great equipment, modern geometry and great performance off-road, the Wild Ronin has the testers of our sister magazine Gravity Magazine convinced.

The look of the Bulls Wild Ronin - noble and simple

Visually, the Wild Ronin hardly stands out. The simple finish in "air blue/black" is subtle but no less elegant. The decals are black and match the overall picture. Cables and trains are routed internally in the carbon frame.

On top of that, there's everything you need for a longer tour: Two mounts in the main frame offer space for at least two bottles or tools.

Potency in geometry and equipment

A lot of leeway is possible with the geometry of a trail bike. Some manufacturers produce long and slack bikes for rough descent use, others focus more on the balance between uphill and downhill. The latter was clearly Bulls' goal.

The steering angle of 66° is combined with a reach of 470mm in the frame size 48cm (which roughly corresponds to size L). In addition, there is a rather short stack of 621mm and a chainstay of short 435 millimeters. These numbers set the tone of the Wild Ronin and underline the statement of the "robust all-rounder with guaranteed fun".

The all-round character is accompanied by great features. The Ultimate suspension from RockShox leaves nothing to be desired. The setup is found quickly and the performance is impressive off-road.

On top of that there are a lot of Shimano Deore XT products. The Ronin comes to a standstill with the 4-piston XT brake system, which is combined with large 203mm discs. This size isn't exactly common on modern trail bikes, either, and we were pleasantly surprised.

But how good is the Wild Ronin really?

Bulls advertises the Wild Ronin as a balanced all-rounder. Thus, the fully should shine with a great performance both uphill and downhill. That sounds almost too good to be true.
