Driving technique video series: Dropping with the e-bike

20 May 2022 by the editorial office

Dropping e-bike

Dropping with the e-bike: After we clarified jumping on the e-MTB last week, this week we want to show you how you can do perfect drops with the e-bike. The expert of MTB Academy, Stefan Herrman explains in the video how you can safely and successfully master dropping on an e-bike.

For more advanced subjects, such as dropping an e-bike in a bike park, safety is paramount, as falls can be particularly painful here. We therefore recommend suitable protective equipment and a slow build-up of the drops. At the beginning it is important to take a close look at the complete situation; So how is the approach, the height of the drop and the exit. The first attempts should be practiced on smaller drops with a height of 20 to 30 cm.

As described in the video, an exact idea of the movement pattern is of elementary importance. That's why it's worth walking the drop first and going through the movements at each point without an e-bike. Then you can slowly start with the first drop with a straight run-up and a relaxed exit. After a successful attempt to mentally repeat the entire process, the process is consolidated and can be called up later. From now on it is important to do a lot of repetitions and get into a routine. Only then should you gradually dare to try higher drops.

About the MTB Academy

Imparting mountain bike riding technique at the highest level – that is the aim of the MTB Academy. The lessons in small groups are intended to bring the participants closer to all relevant topics of mountain biking in an effective, relaxed and lasting way: from the correct basic position to effective braking, mastering curves and switchbacks to steep steps and bunny hops.

An important part of the MTB Academy are camps in the most beautiful bike regions in Europe with different focal points, such as tours, single trail or freeride. At the camps, the students are gradually introduced to new techniques and situations. With small groups adapted to the performance level, a good mood and pleasant learning, the experienced trainers ensure that the participants can fully concentrate on having fun cycling and learning the right riding technique for the E-MTB.
