Giro d'Italia #7: Koen Bouwman grabs stage & mountain jersey

13 May 2022 by Michael Behringer

Bouwman Giro

Cycling: For Koen Bouwman, the seventh stage of the Giro d'Italia went absolutely as desired. The Dutchman was not only able to win the day, but also conquered the mountain jersey.

Bouwman & Dumoulin harmonize splendidly

It was foreseeable that on the 196-kilometre stretch from Diamante to Potenza, the breakaways would be able to prevail in front of the peloton. While the favorites in the peloton kept their feet still, things really got going in the escape group. Seven riders were able to break away and were ultimately allowed to decide the stage win among themselves. In the end, the Jumbo – Visma team had the better end for themselves Tom Dumoulin as a noble helper and the later stage winner Koen Bouwmann were represented twice as strongly. Completed the Dutch double victory Build Mollema (Trek – Segafredo). Lennard Kamna (Bora – hansgrohe) finished sixth in the main field, but lost his mountain jersey to the lucky winner of the day.
