Cycling: Remco Evenepoel has won a monument for the first time in his career. The Belgian was unbeatable in Liège-Bastogne-Liège. Old champion Alejandro Valverde says goodbye to the Doyenne with seventh place.
Evenepoel leaves them all
The Belgians can celebrate a historic triple success in Liège – Bastogne – Liège. Remco Evenepoel (Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl) scrambled up the Cote de La Redoute and then refused to be caught. He himself gradually collected the breakaways - last of all the French Bruno Armirail (Groupama – FDJ). Behind them, teams Movistar and Bahrain - Victorious tried to close the gap again, but young Belgian Evenepoel was too strong for everyone today. Compatriot won the sprint of the pursuers 48 seconds later Quinten Hermans (Intermarché – Wanty – Gobert Matériaux) surprisingly wout van aert (Jumbo - Visma). With this, Remco Evenepoel celebrates his first triumph at a monument. The Swiss Marc Hirschi (UAE) can look forward to ninth place.

Van Vleuten is in a class of its own
There was no doubt that the women were the strongest riders in the peloton Annemiek van Vleuten (Movistar). The 39-year-old Dutchwoman attacked on the last climb of the day - the Côte de la Roche-aux-Faucons - and clearly distanced her companions. The Australian sprinted 43 seconds after her grace brown (FDJ Nouvelle-Aquitaine Futuroscope) in second place. The Dutchwoman completes the podium Demi Vollering (SD - Worx). Again strong presented itself Liana Lippert (DSM). The German finished eighth, 1:58 behind the winner.
