Test Prophete standing air pump made of aluminium: Bicycle accessories from the Prophete brand can be found in almost every self-service store and hardware store. In addition to repair kits, the range of the medium-sized family business also includes a whole range of air pumps. Under the internal item number 506, Prophete offers a floor-standing air pump made of aluminum with a maximum pump pressure of 16 bar.

Structure and key data Prophete floor air pump made of aluminum (506)

The structure and the key data of the Prophete standing air pump make you sit up and take notice. Both the two-wing base and the handle are made of aluminium, as is the pump body. The lifting rod is quite generously dimensioned, which promises high rigidity. The maximum pump pressure of 16 bar also sounds very promising. The air pressure during pumping can be read on an analog pressure gauge at the pump base. The dial has a diameter of about 55 millimeters and is mid-range in size. The duo clamping lever with dust protection cap is suitable for Sclaverand, Dunlop and Auto valves, additional adapters are not included. The Prophete standing air pump made of aluminum is available at a price of 42,99 euros, but a price comparison can definitely be worthwhile.

function and feel

A secure footing when pumping ensures that the pump body is held directly in the base. By doing without intermediate pieces, the Prophete floor air pump (506) made of aluminum really impresses with its high level of rigidity. However, caution is required on sensitive soils. The lower edges of the stand can easily cause scratches. The generously dimensioned lifting rod also has a positive effect. The pumping feeling is full and does not have to hide behind more expensive models. The pressure gauge values are easy to see up to 10 bar, after that the colored display makes it difficult to read. The duo clamping lever is unobtrusive. This is easy to grab and fix. Working with the pump is simplified by the long and, above all, very flexible hose. The length of 110 centimeters allows the user a fairly large radius of action. The aluminum handle, on the other hand, is less appealing. The grip is too narrow and the angular corners put uncomfortable pressure on the ball of the hand. The grip also suffers with sweaty hands.

Conclusion

A good bicycle pump in principle. The inflation is effective and the pumping feeling is full. The consistent use of aluminum ensures high rigidity. In our opinion, the display of the manometer could be revised, at least in the upper area. The grip, on the other hand, is unacceptable. The angular corners press uncomfortably on the ball of the hand, which begs the question, why aren't the edges at least bevelled?! We still see considerable potential for improvement here.
