Ergon BT handlebar tapes: More ergonomics on the handlebars

March 18, 2022 by Florian Nowak

Product news: With its new BT series, Ergon introduces ergonomic handlebar tapes for all Drobar models. Whether on road bikes, all-road or gravel bikes, the new handlebar tapes and the also new BT OrthoCell Pad Set are designed to minimize hand discomfort and offer improved cushioning and pressure distribution.

Due to the low and stretched sitting position on the racing bike, there is a lot of pressure on the driver's hands. In addition, there are frames and cockpits that are becoming increasingly stiff, which absorb vibrations and impacts only minimally. Since the contact surface between the hand and the racing handlebar is relatively small, the punctiform pressure on the ulnar and median nerves is greatly increased and the vibrations can lead to nerve irritation, tingling and numbness in the fingers or irritated palms and thumbs. In order to counteract the ergonomic challenge of racing bike handlebars, Ergon has introduced its BT handlebar tape series.

Ergon BT handlebar tapes for road bikes, gravel and more!

With its BT series, the German ergonomics specialist Ergon from Koblenz brings three special handlebar tapes and a damping set for the best possible contact between driver and cockpit. The strength adapted to the respective area of use and the special 3-layer material structure with AirCell Foam ensure increased vibration damping and better pressure distribution, which should significantly reduce hand problems and nerve irritation. A different winding allows grip and freedom of movement to be individually adjusted. The three handlebar tapes are available with different surface structures, thicknesses and lengths, depending on the area of application.

If you want even more cushioning and better pressure distribution, Ergon recommends the OrthoCell Pad Set, which can be attached under the handlebar tape. This is a 4-part damping set for the upper link, lower link, brake and shifter position, which offers a significant plus in comfort thanks to its orthopedic OrthoCell high-end foam. It ensures the best pressure distribution, is permanently durable and very light, and is also 100 percent made in Germany.

The new Ergon handlebar tapes (in various colors) and pad set are now available from specialist retailers. The recommended retail prices are: BT Road: €32,95, BT Allroad: €37,95, BT Gravel: €39,95. The BT Orthocell pad set costs €29,95.
