Pogacar becomes the second youngest winner
As the first Slovenian, first Tour winner and second youngest rider of all time Tadej pogacar (UAE) won the Strade Bianche. After the breakaway group of the day was caught 52 kilometers before the finish, the 23-year-old ignited the turbo and was only spotted again by his competitors at the finish. Despite our combined strength, he could no longer be caught on the gravel sections. The Spaniard completes the podium after 184 kilometers around Siena Alejandro Valverde (Movistar) and the Dane Kasper Asgreen (Quick Step Alpha Vinyl).
Alaphilippe slowed down by a fall
Already in the first half of the race with the fall of Julian Alaphilippe (Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl) one of the big favorites unsubscribed. The Frenchman came back after a long fight, but lost too much strength in his pursuit. Great presentations at the 16th Strade Bianche with Marco Brenner and Leon Heinske two Germans from Team DSM. Both were part of the day's breakaway group and stayed well ahead of the peloton. Broke after being caught by the eventual winner Tadej pogacar however, all dams. At first he could only Carlos Rodriguez (Ineos Grenadiers) to follow. But even the talented and only 21-year-old Spaniard finally had to admit that he couldn't keep up with the Slovenian.
