Van Aert E3 Classic Laporte

Cycling: Wout van Aert has won the E3 Saxo Bank Classic. The Belgian, together with his teammate Christophe Laporte, pulled away from the group of favorites with more than 40 kilometers to go. Both could not be caught and celebrated an unchallenged double victory.

Van Aert almost unrivalled

Already 80 kilometers before the finish line, the 64th edition of the E3 Saxo Bank Classic got down to business. The decision was finally made about 40 kilometers later, when it was time to climb the Paterberg. The Dutch team Jumbo - Visma pushed the pace so much that there was nothing left of a main field. Captain could follow wout van aert only teammate Christophe Laporte. The Belgian and the French drove away from the competition together – to the finish in Harelbeke, where the starting shot had been fired 203,9 kilometers earlier. They crossed the finish line hand in hand, with the top favorite and captain getting a few millimeters ahead. Behind, the Swiss secured himself Stefan Kung (Groupama – FDJ) with an attack in the last kilometer in third place.
