Bikepacking bags on test: Evoc Packs with Boa Dial

March 15, 2022 by Florian Nowak

Bikepacking bags put to the test: Evoc has long made a name for itself as a specialist for bags, luggage and the like. With appealing Boa dials, robust upper material and other high-quality features, the aim is to turn the bags into cool high-end companions for adventures.

With a complete range of bags from front to back, Evoc naturally offers enough storage space for every adventure. From the handlebar bag to bags on the top tube and in the frame triangle to the saddle bag, everything is included. You even have the option of choosing from variants with different sized storage space for each bag.

Cool looks and first-class material

The high-quality upper in particular ensures an attractive look and also brings some color into the picture compared to the grey-black competitors. Even if the material feels extremely thin, it is extremely tear-resistant and also offers good protection against water and dirt. Nevertheless, the material is not rigid, so that it can be rolled up as intended. This allows you to minimize the volume of the saddle and handlebar bag, especially if you don't have that much with you and want to stow everything nice and tight.

Boa dials bring little benefit

A real highlight at first glance should be the Boa dials, which are used to attach the bags. Unfortunately, the systems only work so well in practice and don't offer much more advantages apart from a stylish look and a technical look. Especially in comparison to strong Velcro strips, the Boa fastening system loses out due to the not very easy handling, at least during assembly. Once the bags have been mounted, they offer a good grip and don't wobble around much. However, this does not necessarily apply to the saddlebag, because this has a cut-out at the contact point with the seat post, which means that it should fit perfectly with aerodynamically shaped seat posts. With our classic, round gravel bike posts, however, you had the feeling that you didn't always have the best grip. We also had our problems with the closure system of the rear pocket, opening it quickly and easily.

Even though we didn't quite warm up to the two Evoc bags on the front and saddle, there's nothing wrong with the frame and top tube bags. These are both of extremely high quality, offer plenty of space and a clever layout in the interior and could never be disturbed or slipped.
