Giant Trance X E+: Trail bike with SyncDrive Pro2 now also with aluminum frame

27 January 2022 by Michael Faiss

A few weeks ago, Giant not only presented the first carbon E-MTB in the company's history with the new Trance X E+ Advanced (to the test), but also gave the successful Trance model a comprehensive technical upgrade with a new drive, larger battery and other adjustments. But not everyone wants or can afford a carbon E-MTB or likes to continue to use aluminum for other reasons; So it's not surprising that the new Giant Trance X E+ is an aluminum version of the versatile trail bike.

Modern geometry with flip-chip customization

Except for the frame material, the Giant Trance X E+ resembles its carbon counterpart in many ways. There is also 150mm of travel at the front, 140 at the rear, 29 inch wheels and a modern, sporty geometry that can even be adjusted with a flip chip. With the latter, the seat and steering angle as well as the bottom bracket height can be adjusted in two settings. Of course, Giant's tried-and-tested Maestro rear end is also on board again, which has been able to impress with its smooth response for many years.

The geometry can be adjusted to your own wishes or the terrain with one or two flip chips.

The design language and lines are unmistakable.
The Maestro rear end has proven itself and tickles 140mm of travel out of the damper.

New motor and large 750 Wh battery

Of course, the aluminum model of the Trance E-MTB also gets the same drive upgrade as the carbon version: The Giant SyncDrive Pro2 relies on the Yamaha PW-X3 mid-motor and combines it with a 750 Wh (Trance X E+ 1 and 2) or 625Wh (Trance X E+ 3) battery. The motor, which has shrunk significantly in terms of dimensions and weight, should be reliably supplied with energy even during longer trips, despite its maximum torque of 85 Nm. If the 750 Wh is still not enough for you, you can mount another 250 Wh with an additional battery and thus get a total of 1000 Wh!

The new motor in the Giant SyncDrive Pro2 drive is significantly more compact than its predecessor.

In addition to the motor and battery, the SyncDrive Pro2 also comes with completely new controls. The so-called RideControl Go+ unit is located in the top tube; The LED provides information about the selected support level and the charge level of the battery. It is operated via the RideControl Ergo 3 unit on the handlebars. Hardly any larger than the handle's clamp, three buttons are integrated with which all functions can be accessed conveniently and in a space-saving manner. Giant does without a display – if you want, you can retrofit it in the form of the RideDash Plus or use the free app for Android and iOS.

models and trim levels

The Giant Trance X E+ is launched with three models. In terms of price, it starts at a very attractive 4.899 euros, although you have to do without the large 750 Wh battery in the corresponding model and be satisfied with 625 Wh. There is also a Shimano 12-speed gear system, 4-piston brakes and a RockShox chassis. The other two models for 5.499 and 6.199 euros, on the other hand, rely on spring elements from Fox and come with the longer-range battery. Of course there are also higher-quality components from the SLX or XT series from Shimano for the gears and brakes.
