Cycling: Egan Bernal suffered a serious training accident in Colombia on Monday. The 25-year-old crashed into a stationary bus and sustained serious injuries.

Bernal has to worry about his career

After a serious fall in training, Egan Bernal is in intensive care near Bogota. The winner of the 2019 Tour de France crashed into a parked bus in his home town yesterday, Monday. The 25-year-old was injured so badly that he was immediately taken to a nearby hospital and had to undergo multiple operations. According to reports from the University Hospital of La Sabana in Chia, Egan Bernal suffered femoral and kneecap fractures as well as a hematopneumothorax as a result of the fall. Injuries to the thoracic spine are cause for concern. The fifth and sixth vertebrae were fractured, while numerous other vertebrae have shifted so much that paralysis was feared at first. According to initial reports, the operations went well. However, the Colombian should remain in intensive care for the next 72 hours.

We can confirm Egan Bernal has been taken to hospital following a training accident on a team camp in Colombia this morning.

We will provide a further update on Egan's condition in due course.
