Cycling: Dylan Groenewegen will start for the Australian team BikeExchange – Jayco next season. The Dutchman leaves Jumbo – Visma after six successful years.
Groenewegen starts a new chapter
The team Jumbo - Visma gives along Dylan Groenewegen what is probably their best pure sprinter. As announced on Saturday, the Dutchman asked for the early release of his current contract. The Australian team BikeExchange – Jayco will be his new employer. There, as the number one sprinter, he will probably be the total captain on flat stages.
Team press release Jumbo-Visma:
"In order not to jeopardize the sporting development of a driver who helped shape the success of Jumbo - Visma with his victory on the Champs-Élysées, team manager Richard Plugge has agreed to terminate the contract with Groenewegen."
In search of the old form
Dylan Groenewegen is one of the most successful sprinters of recent years. The Dutchman won four stages in the Tour de France, three sections near Paris - Nice and the one-day races Bruges - De Panne, Kuurne - Brussels - Kuurne and the Brussels Cycling Classic. He was also able to celebrate numerous daily victories in smaller tours such as the Tour of Britain, the Tour of Norway, the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana and the Volta ao Algarve. However, 2021 didn't go according to plan for Dylan Groenewegen. After causing Fabio Jakobsen's serious fall at the Tour de Pologne in August 2020, he never regained his old strength.
Dylan Groenewegen:
“Ever since I started speaking to Brent Copeland and the team leadership, I felt like this was the right place for me. It's an incredible opportunity and I'm looking forward to fighting for important results with the team."
