Magura #whostopsyou: Downhill World Champion Loic Bruni looks back on the 2021 season [Video]

10 November 2021 by Andrew Waldera

MTB News: As part of the Magura #whostopsyou video series, stars tell their personal stories. From Olympians to star chefs, each of these people stands for a special story. In the fifth part of the series, multiple downhill world champion and overall World Cup winner 2021 Loic Bruni looks back on the most recent season.

Loic Bruni

Despite the overall World Cup victory in 2021, Loic Bruni has had a very tough season, in which at times he didn't even know whether it was even worth standing on the starting line. The year really started anything but well for the Frenchman. He injured himself during the first training rides, after which he became infected with COVID-19. Almost like in a bad movie, a broken heel followed after recovery – and again he had to take a break. His botched start to the season eventually ended with a disappointing 10th place in Leogang and 50th place at his home World Cup in Les Gets. Working with his psychologist and mental coach made all the difference, especially during this difficult time. So he managed to turn the tide again and in the end he was rewarded with the overall World Cup victory in 2021. The story of Loic Bruni is the best example of the fact that everything is always possible despite adverse circumstances and conditions.
