Cycling: This weekend, the British racing team Ineos Grenadiers got down to business. Several transfers were confirmed this Monday. Among others, the German U23 champion Kim Heiduk is moving to the former Team Sky.
Heiduk moves to the WorldTour
At only 21 years old Kim Heiduk in the highest class of road cycling. The German U23 champion is currently driving for the German racing team Lotto – Kern-Haus. However, he has signed with British WorldTour team Ineos Grenadiers for the next two seasons. He attracted attention especially in the first half of the year. After that he had to pause for many months because of a training accident with a car.
Kim Heiduk:
"From the moment I heard about Ineos' interest, I knew they were the right team for me. That was an incredible feeling. I can't wait to get to know and experience many different races over the next year. It will always be about discovery and development.”
Deputy Team Principal Rod Ellingworth:
“All of our interactions with him have been extremely positive. He is very willing to learn and starts his career at a great level. We look forward to seeing him continue next year and adjust to life as a Grenadier.”
Fraile and Viviani are also moving to Ineos
Two other newcomers attracted even more international attention. In addition to Kim Heiduk, you also have the Spaniard Omar friar (Astana – Premier Tech) and the Italian Elia Viviani (Cofidis) obliged. While Fraile is known for his skills on hilly terrain and is considered a strong breakaway, Viviani was one of the strongest sprinters in the peloton, at least in the past. In the past two years, however, he has been less successful on the road. He is still one of the fastest drivers on the track. One of his goals is the Olympic Games in Paris.
