Touring cyclists can embark on the multi-day route “Schlossparkradrunde im Allgäu” directly in the holiday resort of Füssen, which leads in the footsteps of the Bavarian fairytale king Ludwig II through the gently rolling, lake-rich foothills of the Alps around Füssen and the neighboring Neuschwanstein Castle.
The General German Bicycle Club (ADFC) has awarded the 219-kilometer long-distance cycle path five stars, its best rating. The Schlosspark tour is the main route of the ADFC-certified “Schlosspark im Allgäu” cycle travel region – currently one of four such premium cycle regions in Germany. The title "ADFC RadReiseRegion" not only guarantees optimal route planning and signage as well as certified bike hosts with special service in the overnight locations, but also a varied network of routes. In addition to the Schlosspark bike tour, there are twelve regional routes in the Schlosspark adventure area. Each of these tours is between 25 and 65 kilometers long and has its own theme that can be experienced along the route.
Some regional routes start directly in Füssen in the Allgäu:
The Kneipp bike tour connects healthy stops at Kneipp pools, herb gardens and the Kneipp island floating in the Hopfensee on almost 25 km of cycling route. The balance of body, mind and soul and thus the maxim of the teachings of the Allgäu water doctor Sebastian Kneipp are the focus of this tour. The route runs from the center of Füssen down to the Lech and along the river bank to the Kneipp spa town of Bad Faulenbach. In this district you will find a drinking fountain and a Kneipp bath as well as an idyllic resting place to let your thoughts wander. It then continues past Mittersee and Obersee to the legendary Alatsee, where the next refreshment awaits. Also on the route are the Weißensee and the Hopfensee as well as numerous places to stop for refreshments.
Another regional route that starts in Füssen is the Castles and palaces tour with almost 43 km. On this circuit are the royal castles of Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau, as well as one of the oldest Allgäu castles and the highest castle ruins in Germany. Here you can not only get to know the castles and palaces of the region, but also those of neighboring Tyrol. The route runs out of the city in the direction of Hopfen am See, where a detour on foot to what is probably the oldest ruin in the Allgäu, the Hopfen castle ruins, is worthwhile. From Hopfen, the route continues with breathtaking panoramic views via Hopferau to Speiden. The Mariahilf pilgrimage church, which is well worth seeing, and the neighboring brewhouse also invite you to make a short stop or stop for a bite to eat. The route continues through Pfronten to the neighboring Vilstal, from where you can see Germany's highest castle ruins, Falkenstein (1286 m). In Vils you will pass the ruins of Vilsegg Castle. From there it goes back over the Lech and over to the deep blue Alpsee, which lies between the royal castles of Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau. As a further highlight, the symbol of Füssen, the High Castle, awaits you at the end, where the route ends.
In addition to the routes of the Schlosspark cycle tour, other exciting long-distance cycle routes cross directly in the Alpine bike portal in Füssen in the Allgäu.
The Lake Constance-Königssee cycle path runs in a west-east direction through the northern foothills of the Alps from Schönau am Königssee to Lindau on Lake Constance. Always there: a breathtaking mountain panorama and places steeped in tradition. If you are not sure whether you want to cycle the entire Bodensee-Königssee cycle path during your cycling holiday, you can get a taste of the stage between Nesselwang and Füssen and enjoy royal views.
Another long-distance cycle path is the cycle path Romantic Road, which leads from Würzburg to Füssen. Whether from north to south or vice versa is up to you. The Romantic Road cycle path is also suitable for getting a taste of it. The stage from Füssen to the Wieskirche, the UNESCO World Heritage Site in Steingaden, is perfect for a cycling holiday in Füssen.
On the long-distance cycle paths with Füssen as the focal point, the cycle tour is also allowed Via Claudia Augusta (VCA) not missing. This leads over the Reschen and Fernpass and was built by the Romans as a trade route across the Alps. Today, the bike tour along the route is considered the easiest "Transalp" between Bavaria and Italy. You can also test the bike tour Via Claudia Augusta during your bike holiday. From Füssen it goes to Lechbruck am See and back via Prem.
The Cycle tour Allgäu, which runs on a 475 km long route as a circular route through the entire Allgäu, offers cycling holidays according to your own taste. Due to the good connection to the railway network, there is always the possibility to choose connection points to new variants, shortcuts or access routes to other long-distance cycle paths such as the Iller cycle path.
It doesn't matter whether it's the Via Claudia Augusta bike tour, the Romantic Road bike path, the Allgäu bike tour or the Bodensee-Königssee bike path long-distance bike path, our bike hosts are geared to the special needs of cyclists and can also be booked for one night. And if you need a break from long-distance cycling, you can relax while strolling through the old town of Füssen or at one of the numerous bathing lakes.
