E-mountain bikes 2022: In the last few years, no bike category has grown as much as e-bikes. No matter where you are, the motor-assisted two-wheelers have more than just arrived in everyday life. The Velomotion team has chosen the best e-mountain bikes of 2022 and presents the highlights here.
The good parts can also be seen more and more often on the forest paths and mountain bike trails. Bike parks now offer specially made "uphill" routes that are really fun with a lot of Newton meters and previously unrideable climbing sections are suddenly possible thanks to the powerful motors.
But the wide range on the e-mountain bike market can quickly become confusing. Do I need more suspension travel, fat tires and would I prefer a Bosch or Yamaha motor? The prices of the e-MTBs are not exactly cheap and it is therefore important to be well informed. Our following overview shows some of the most exciting e-mountain bikes of the 2022 model year. Everyone should find what they are looking for here, or at least get an idea of the different types of motor-assisted mountain bikes.
Striking design with great components
The Lynx is a trail-oriented e-mountain bike with 160 mm of travel, high-quality components and an interesting frame design. The Shimano EP8 has three support levels, 70 Nm torque and is combined with a 720 Wh battery. Thanks to the combination of modern geometry and potent components, the Lynx promises a lot of fun off-road and should shine both uphill and downhill. The top model comes with a Fox 38 Float Factory fork, DHX2 steel spring damper and Shimano XT brakes and gears. In addition to this model, the Lynx is available in five other variants and colors.

Up to 925 Wh for range junkies
The Bulls E-Stream Evo AM 5 FIT is unique in many ways. 150 mm of spring travel at the front and rear are set in motion by a Brose S-Mag with a torque of 90 Nm. But the name suffix "FIT" reveals something exciting: In addition to the discreetly small remote control unit with color display and connectivity function (incl. app), this includes above all the battery variants available to choose from. 555, 740 or even 925 watt hours not only promise an ideal solution for individual needs, but also extensive trail tours without worrying about range. The equipment leaves nothing to be desired: Fox chassis, Shimano XT 12-speed gears and 4-piston brake system. For maximum versatility, Bulls-typical MonkeyLink interfaces are on board. For example, a lighting system can be attached in a flash. Well solved.

Lots of power with little weight
The Sonic Evo AM-SL 700 impressively proves that e-mountain bikes with a battery capacity in excess of 1 Wh do not always have to be heavy. A Shimano EP140 motor with 8 Nm torque sits in the slim carbon frame with 85 mm spring travel. The 750 Wh battery can be removed at an angle and promises excellent ranges. 29 inch wheels, RockShox chassis, 4-piston brakes, 12-speed gears and a dropper post literally scream for riding fun. MonkeyLink is of course on board and makes attaching a lighting system as easy as possible. The total weight is amazing: At just 21,5 kg, the Sonic Evo AM-SL is almost in light EMTB territory – despite 85 Newton meters and 750 watt hours. Chapeau Bulls!

The chassis comes from Rockshox and should offer some off-road performance with the Yari Motion Control fork at the front and the Deluxe Select damper. Corratec relies on Shimano for the brakes and gears and, as befits a modern mountain bike, uses a 12-speed XT cassette.

The e-mountain bike all-rounder
With the Hybrid 140, Cube is focusing on fun on the trails, but in combination with a modern geometry and the 85 Nm strong Bosch Performance CX motor, it also offers a lot of touring potential. The German manufacturer uses spring elements from Fox with 150 mm spring travel at the front for the chassis. The power of the Bosch motor with 750 Wh battery is transferred to the Sram GX Eagle circuit. As soon as the terrain gets steep, the powerful Magura MT7 disc brakes with 203 mm brake discs at the front and rear help.

With mixed wheels - 29" at the front and 27,5" at the rear - a modern geometry with a long reach and flat steering angle and the new 95 Nm strong Panasonic Ultimate motor, the Uproc X leaves nothing to be desired. The carbon frame has been reinforced with double walls in which the cables are routed internally. The 750 Wh Flyer battery is also integrated in the frame, but can be removed at any time. For the components of the X 9.5, the Swiss manufacturer relies on a noble Fox Factory chassis, Shimano XTR brakes and the electric Sram X01 AXS gearshift and Reverb seat post.

The e-trail bike is also available in carbon for the first time
The new Trance X Advanced E+ is Giant's first eMTB with a carbon frame. The composite frame comes with adjustable geometry via a new flip-chip feature, allowing you to change the angle of the head tube and seat tube, as well as the bottom bracket height. The Maestro rear end, in combination with 140 mm, should optimize the handling and make the Trance X the all-round mountain bike from the Taiwanese manufacturer. The whole thing is combined with a SyncDrive Pro motor with 85 Nm and a 650 Wh battery. The high-end variant is available with Fox Performance chassis, Shimano SLX rear derailleur and Deore XT brakes.

The hybrid is available in three trim levels and two colors. In addition to the beige model, there is also a variant in green. All three versions rely on the Brose S-Mag with a 630 Wh battery. A modern mountain bike naturally has 12 gears. This comes from Sram. The wheels come from DT-Swiss and are made of carbon or aluminum, depending on the variant. If you are interested in the high-end model, you can look forward to a Fox Factory suspension. The cheaper models are available with Rockshox forks and dampers.

With the Air Ray, Raymon is presenting a light E-MTB that, with the small Yamaha Air Drive motor and an integrated 400 Wh battery, should be more reminiscent of classic mountain bike handling than of heavy e-bikes. The carbon frame rolls on 29" wheels and has 150 mm of travel. The top model has a Rockshox Ultimate suspension with Pike at the front and the Deluxe damper at the rear. In addition to the high-end variant, there are two other models that also have the 50 Nm Yamaha motor, but have to do without the Ultimate chassis and rely on slightly cheaper components.
