Track World Championship: Lea Sophie Friedrich secures her third gold medal

Cycling: Gold-Lea has struck again. Lea Sophie Friedrich can look forward to her third gold medal at the Track World Championships in Roubaix. On the last day she won the keirin and gave the BDR the most successful world championship in history.

Friedrich is the most successful World Cup athlete

With a total of 4 medals, Leah Sophie Friedrich crowned the most successful female athlete at these World Championships. In Roubaix, the 21-year-old won gold in the team sprint, 500-meter time trial and keirin. Behind her teammate Emma Hinze, she was also able to celebrate silver in the sprint. In the keirin final today, she didn't give Japan's Mina Sato and Jana Tyschtschenko from Russia a chance.

Leah Sophie Friedrich:
“It was a tough day mentally. I was about to give up the race for health reasons. But I really wanted this jersey. The result cannot be topped – it is unbelievable.”

Germany is the most successful nation at the World Cup

As in the previous year, the German track cyclists were particularly successful in the sprint disciplines. They already won all four gold medals in Berlin - this time in Roubaix as well. In total, the Federation of German Cyclists can celebrate 6 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze medals.

BDR Vice President Gunter Schabel:
"I think we did very, very well at the World Cup. We didn't expect that. Especially in the female field, with the exception of the mass competitions, we determine the world level. We also had a very young team at the start, in which everyone performed at their peak.”
