Railway EM: Friedrich wins her third medal with gold in the keirin

Cycling: The BDR also has reason to celebrate on the last day of the European Rail Championship. Lea Sophie Friedrich won gold in the keirin and thus her third medal at this European Championship. In addition, Joachim Eilers – also in the keirin – can look forward to bronze.

Friedrich gets gold after 2x silver at the end

Leah Sophie Friedrich has chosen to be the queen of this European railway championship in Grenchen. After two silver medals in the team sprint and the individual sprint, she won gold in the keirin on the final day. She impressed with an extremely offensive and aggressive driving style, with which she didn't give her competitors the slightest chance.

Leah Sophie Friedrich:
"I really wanted to get the thing, it was a revenge for the Olympics, where I missed the keirin. I wanted to go flat out on the last lap to tell myself I gave it my all. It's unbelievable. I actually went in with zero expectations and now that I could go for gold, that's so nice. I'm just a bit flashed right now."

Eilers gets the only men's medal

The honor of the BDR men saved Joachim Eilers. In the keirin he won bronze and thus the only medal of this track European Championship for the German men. In total, the German Cyclists' Association can celebrate 3x gold, 3x silver and 2x bronze.

Joachim Eilers:
“It's been a long time since I was successful in an international championship. And the cast was very strong here. It was a tough race and I really fought for that medal. And that makes me all the more proud.”
