Cape Epic #7: Sarrou/Beers & Frei/Stigger celebrate their overall victory

24 October 2021 by Michael Behringer

Cape Epic 2021 podium

Cycling: Jordan Sarrou / Matthew Beers have not let the overall victory at the Absa Cape Epic be taken away. The last day's victory went to Hans Becking / José Dias for the men and Sina Frei / Laura Stigger for the women, who also clinched all the day's victories and of course the overall victory.

Cape Epic 2021

Sarrou/Beers with start and finish victory

They gave away the last day's victory, but they didn't let the overall victory be taken away from them. Jordan Sarrou/Matthew Beers won the Absa Cape Epic 2021. The Frenchman and the South African were at the top of the standings from day one. After their victory in the prologue, they left nothing to chance and can now celebrate a start and finish victory. The last stage victory went to Hans Becking / Jose Dias from the Netherlands or Portugal. The two Germans complete the podium Martin Frey / Simon Stiebjahn from Team Bulls, who were able to win the day the day before. Ben Zwiehoff / Lennard Kaemna (Bora – hansgrohe) finish the Absa Cape Epic 2021 in 22nd place overall, almost 5 hours behind.

Cape Epic: Final Standings (Men)

1. Jordan Sarrou / Matthew Beers (NinetyOne-songo-Specialized)
2. Martin Frey / Simon Stiebjahn (Bulls) + 8:59,6 minutes
3. Hans Becking / José Dias (Buff Scott MTB) + 14:34,1 minutes

Free/Stigger win 8 out of 8

Unfortunately, the women's competition was less exciting, but all the more historical. Then Sina Frei / Laura Stigger managed to win all eight days and thus win the Absa Cape Epic 2021 completely undefeated. Also on today's last day, the Swiss and the Austrian simply couldn't be stopped. The NinetyOne-songo-Specialized team can be happy about the overall victory in the men's as well as in the women's category.

Cape Epic: Final Standings (Women)

1. Sina Frei / Laura Stigger (NinetyOne-songo-Specialized)
2. Candice Lill / Mariske Strauss (Faces CST) + 40:58,8 minutes
3. Ariane Lüthi / Robyn De Groot (Salusmed) + 52:45,1 minutes

Strong/strong win in mixed

A South African home win can be admired in the Masters. Craig Uria/Andrew Duvenage were more than an hour faster than the Swiss after 8 days Roland Müller / André Bachmann. The Germans are happy in mixed Laura Stark / Sebastian Stark about the overall victory. Had at the Grand Masters Bart Brentjens and Peter Vesel from the Netherlands and Slovenia just ahead of the Swiss Barti Bucher / Hans Juerg Gerber front.
