Cape Epic #5: Becking / Dias win again, Frei / Stigger remain undefeated

22 October 2021 by Michael Behringer

Cape Epic

Cycling: The duo Hans Becking / José Dias can celebrate a stage win at the Absa Cape Epic for the second day in a row. The Dutchman and the Portuguese won the fifth leg in front of the German duo Martin Frey / Simon Stiebjahn.

Cape Epic: 4 candidates for the podium

Again became the overall leaders Jordan Sarrou/Matthew Beers (NinetyOne-songo-Specialized) defeated. But in the overall standings, the French and the South African are still in the lead. On today's sixth day, they crossed the finish line in third place, 1:34,9 minutes behind the day's winners. 1:32,9 minutes behind Hans Becking / Jose Dias (Buff Scott MTB) rode the German duo Martin Frey / Simon Stiebjahn from Team Bulls across the finish line. In the overall standings, the two-time winners from the Netherlands and Portugal are moving up and down. They are now in fourth place. Due to the gaps, it now seems clear - two days before the end - that the top 4 will probably fight for the podium among themselves. Ben Zwiehoff / Lennard Kaemna Incidentally, (Bora – hansgrohe) have moved up to 23rd place and are currently almost three and a half hours behind the leaders.

1. Jordan Sarrou / Matthew Beers (NinetyOne-songo-Specialized)
2. Martin Frey / Simon Stiebjahn (Bulls) + 6:39,9
3. Samuele Porro / Fabian Rabensteiner (Trek-Pireli) + 10:54,3
4. Hans Becking / Jose Dias (Buff Scott MTB) +13:37,0

German-speaking teams are about to win overall

The same procedure as every day. In the women's competition were also allowed on the sixth day for the sixth time Sina Frei / Laura Stigger (NinetyOne-songo-Specialized) cheer. Accordingly, the Swiss and the Austrian are almost uncatchable in the lead in the overall ranking. The fact that German-speaking drivers can probably be happy about the overall victory at this year's Absa Cape Epic is also evident in other categories. So the mixed competition is a clear affair for the Germans. Laura Stark / Sebastian Stark (Bauer-Werner Young Guns) perform here Benjamin Michael / Janine Schneider (Bike Garage Mixed). And even in the Grand Masters there is still a chance of a German-speaking winning duo. Currently leading here though Bart Brentjens and Peter Vesel (CST PostNL Bafang) from the Netherlands and Slovenia, but just behind lie in wait Barti Bucher / Hans Juerg Gerber (BiXS Bikeholiday) from Switzerland. In the Masters currently have Craig Uria/Andrew Duvenage (Restonic) from South Africa in front of the Swiss duo Roland Müller / André Bachmann (skyPixX) is one step ahead.

Buff Scott MTB Hans Becking and Jose Dias comfortably win Stage 5 of the 2021 Absa Cape Epic. A sublime ride. Back-to-back stage wins for them. #CapeEpic
